FULL INTERVIEWS: Jefferson City, Columbia Public Works speak on wintry road conditions

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Britt Smith, Jefferson City Public Works

ABC 17: Could you start off by telling us how the roads are looking in Jefferson City?

SMITH: Well, here in Jefferson City everything is just wet at the moment. We've got that wintry miz coming down but road temperatures are staying above freezing. We've got staff monitoring the situation and will react if that system does start to freeze.

ABC 17: Will you have any crews out tonight? I know you said they're monitoring the situation.

SMITH: Yes, we just have our supervisors that are monitoring the roads in various locations around town, and our main crews are hopefully getting a little rest and hopefully we won't have to call them in but obviously they're on standby in case they do need to come in.

Richard Stone, Columbia Public Works

ABC 17: Can you start by telling us how the roads are looking in Columbia tonight?

STONE: Well there is some winter weather so at any moment there may be some spotty, slick conditions out there. So I just recommend everybody slow down out there as they're traveling. It is possible that we get a little drying overnight, but for some time here conditions are probably going to be immediately slick.

ABC 17: Do you plan on having any crews out on the roads tonight?

STONE: Yes, we've got a nine-person crew in overnight focused on trouble spots and priority routes.

ABC 17: And lastly, is there anything drivers should be aware of this weekend if they have to go somewhere early tomorrow morning or late tonight?

STONE: Well kind of like what we have today. We are in the middle of winter, so weather can turn relatively quickly. The precipitation wasn't forecasted to come in until early in the morning, but it came in through the day. So, slow down, be aware of your surroundings, if you see precipitation definitely slow down and prudent winter weather driving.
