Several Mid-Missouri centers, offices and schools close Thursday for winter weather

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Snow and extreme cold are headed to Mid-Missouri on Thursday.

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team is tracking subzero temperatures for the rest of the week.

Several Mid-Missouri entities are announcing closures for Thursday to stay ahead of the storm.

All local closings and delays can be found here, ABC 17 will be updating the list as more closures are announced.

The Southern Boone School district announced a snow day for Thursday earlier this week ahead of its winter break. Christian Chapel Academy in Columbia and Hallsville Schools also announced closures for Thursday.

Columbia College and the University of Missouri announced its staff would be working remotely on Thursday. MU is doing the same for Friday.

Other closures include Jefferson City offices on Thursday. The city said in a press release that it will monitor the weather and make a decision about Friday later. City buses will not run. The Jefferson City Animal Shelter will be available by appointment only Thursday.

Republic Services solid waste in Jefferson City will be collecting some Thursday solid waste routes on
Wednesday with the remainder of the Thursday route being collected on Friday, a press release stated.

Other closures for Thursday include:

Boone County Family Resources, Boonslick Senior Center in Boonville, Building Community Bridges, Callaway County Public Library, Callaway Family Resource Center, College Park Christian Preschool in Columbia, the Columbia Public Library, the Columbia Senior Activity Center, Fayette Senior Center, Glasgow Senior Center, Holts Summit Public Library, Montgomery County Senior Center, Services for Independent Living, Southern Boone Public Library and Tipton Nutrition Center.
