Deputies searching for man accused of hitting patrol vehicles during overnight chase across Mid-Missouri
AUDRAIN COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Deputies are searching for a man following an overnight chase across Mid-Missouri.
Michael J. Brooks, formerly of Mexico, Missouri, is accused of leading law enforcement officers on a chase across parts of Montgomery, Callaway and Audrain counties.
According to the Audrain County Sheriff's Office, Brooks drove off after Montgomery City police officers tried to stop him for a violation early Friday morning.
Deputies said Brooks turned his vehicle around on Highway 821 near Highway 823 and hit two sheriff's office patrol vehicles. The crash caused minor damage to a Callaway County cruiser and heavy damage to an Audrain County patrol vehicle.
Deputies said the crash knocked an Audrain County deputy unconscious. The deputy was treated at the scene and later taken to a hospital.
A passenger reportedly identified Brooks as the driver involved in the chase.
Deputies said Brooks ran away while they helped those involved in the crash.
A Missouri State Highway Patrol helicopter and K-9 units were unable to locate Brooks. Deputies said they believe Brooks is either in Callaway County near Auxvasse or Kingdom City.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Brooks charging him with two counts of assaulting law enforcement, two counts of armed criminal action, one count of causing more than $25,0000 of property damage and failure to yield to emergency vehicles. The warrant orders Brooks to be held without bond.
