Democrat Busch Valentine blasts GOP opponent in Senate race as career politician

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Democratic Senate candidate Trudy Busch Valentine blasted her Republican opponent as a career politician in a Jefferson City campaign stop Friday, a little more than a month before the midterm election.

Busch Valentine, a nurse and heiress to the Anheuser-Busch beer company, is trying to win the seat vacated by Republican Sen. Roy Blunt. She faces an uphill battle in a state that has gone heavily for Republicans over the past several election cycles.

Blunt announced in March 2021 that he won't seek reelection after more than 20 years on Capitol Hill.

The stops in Mid-Missouri by Busch Valentine are part of her second "Nobody's Senator but Yours" RV tour. She also had stops in California, Warrensburg and Raytown on Friday.

Busch Valentine is going up against Republican Eric Schmitt in the Nov. 8 election. Schmitt, the current Missouri attorney general, defeated former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens in the August primary election.

In her speech in Jefferson City at Plate & Pour, Valentine talked about her stand on health care decisions and abortion. Valentine also says the political system needs work.

"Our politics are broken and it's full of too many career politicians like Eric Schmitt," she told supporters in Jefferson City. Schmitt was in the state legislature and was treasurer before being appointed attorney general.

Schmitt's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The last day to register to vote for the November election is Oct. 12, according to the Missouri Secretary of State's website. Potential voters can register to vote through an online application or at a local election authority office.

Missourians can also register to vote when applying for or renewing a driver's license.
