COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Missouri Task Force 1 continued its search efforts Wednesday in Fort Myers, Florida, after finding human remains.

The search it covered more than 570 homes and other debris piles left from the destruction caused by Hurricane Ian.

"While performing their searches yesterday, one of the HRD (Human Remains Detection) canines unfortunately located a victim that did not survive the storm," The Boone County Fire District said in a Facebook post. "As difficult as that may be, it is part of what we are assigned to do and our members know that."

The fire district said Missouri Task Force 1 has been assigned to the southern end of the island to continue their assignment.
