Fulton Public Schools welcome back students for first day of classes

FULTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

Students continue to return to classrooms across Mid-Missouri this week.

Fulton Public Schools welcomed back students for the first day of classes Wednesday morning. At Fulton High School, some students crowded the drop-off line to give their peers a warm welcome.

ABC 17 News spoke to several people on the first day at Fulton High School. One teacher said he was looking forward to the normalcy of the upcoming year.

A group of seniors said they were ready to graduate. Another group of students said they want to start on a positive note.

"Say hi to as many people as possible. Smile, be nice. talk to a bunch of strangers. Just make it the best first day," said Grave Ousley, a senior at Fulton High School.

The school district will also have several new faculty members for the upcoming school year.

Fulton Public Schools wants to achieve the state's target of 90% of students attending class 90% of the time. As the first day of school is underway, drivers in Fulton should expect to find increased traffic around school buildings. Drivers should give themselves extra time on their commute and watch out for school zones where the speed limit decreases.

For COVID-19, Fulton public schools will use its "Safe Return to In-Person Instruction & Continuity of Services" plan. The school district plans to track cases and it will update the plan as needed.

Students and families can also find a dashboard with COVID-19 case information for the district. Fulton Public Schools plans to sanitize equipment in schools and provide sanitation stations.

The school district asks families to keep students home if they feel sick.
