Food bank to collect donations Friday for Boone County students

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri plans to collect donations Friday for Boone County students.

Workers will host the Pack School Pantries Food & Fund Drive at the Columbia Mall in the northeast parking lot near Wendy's from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The donations are expected to go to 14 school pantries in Boone County that give items away to students and their families.

Staff plan to collect donations of food or money. Donations accepted include:

  • Peanut butter
  • Canned fruits and vegetables
  • Canned tuna and chicken
  • Meal kits
  • Spaghetti sauce
  • Other shelf-stable foods

In its service area, the food bank reports that 1 in 7 children are food insecure. The food bank estimates there are around 4,320 food-insecure children in Boone County.

Anyone that cannot make the donation drive can donate online through The Food Bank of Central & Northeast Missouri's website.

For every $25 donated, the food bank says it can provide up to 100 meals.
