Columbia Police investigate after a suspicious person reported entering an apartment Tuesday night

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia police are investigating a suspicious person that was inside an apartment on the 4300 block of Kentsfield on Tuesday night.

The caller reported that an adult male approximately 6 feet tall with brown eyes had entered their home and fled upon discovery. The caller stated that the suspect was wearing a white hat, light-colored shoes, a light-colored shirt and light-colored shorts.

Police have released a video from a nearby security video camera.

The break-in has some apartment residents feeling uneasy. Residents told ABC 17 News residential break-ins are not common at Aria.

"I was very surprised like I said I don't hear a lot of stuff like that happening people breaking in, you know this one is definitely different," Ethan Marino, a resident said.

The city of Columbia has seen its fair share of burglaries in 2022 with the police department working 184 burglaries this year. In June, CPD said the department saw an increase in car break-ins around town. This month CPD has been sent to 15 burglary calls.

The department offers a crime-free multi-housing program four times a year to rental units within the city. The program works to reduce crime activity on apartment properties. Aria Luxury Apartments is listed as one of the properties certified in the program.
