Multiple back-to-school events scheduled in Columbia Saturday

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Multiple back to school events will be taking place in Columbia Saturday, set to offer free goods and services to students and parents as back-to-school preparations begin.

The Voluntary Action Center, is set to host a back to school health fair Saturday for students.

The event, is set to take place at Derby Ridge Elementary from 9 a.m. Saturday morning until 1 p.m.

At the same time, Rock the Community is set to hold a back to school community event Saturday.

That event, is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Saturday and run through 7 p.m.

At the health fair, backpacks filled with school supplies will be available for Boone County students for free.

Columbia Boone County Public Health and Human Services will also be on site, to give free vaccines and booster shots.

Organizers for the event say no i.d, insurance, or appointment is needed for the Saturday services.

People attending may receive any dose in a series, including boosters.

Anyone aged six months and older will only be eligible for the Pfizer vaccine, with anyone over 18 eligible for any vaccine.

The Voluntary Action Center anticipates 800 students to attend Saturday's health fair.

Free backpacks and supplies will also be given out at the Douglass Park Rock the Community event.

A three-point shootout, along will live performances is also scheduled to take place.

Event organizers say the Rock the Community event aims to empower Columbia residents with positive programming and atmosphere.
