Tracking dangerous heat and much needed rain

TODAY: After hitting 100 degrees for the first time in almost four years on Thursday, we'll likely do it again on Friday. With a southwest breeze this afternoon around 10 mph, and plenty of sunshine, temperatures will likely climb a degree or two above 100 after starting in the low 70s this morning. Some high clouds will move overhead this morning, but it should be a rather thin layer, and shouldn't delay a warm up. Speaking of clouds, a complex of showers and storms is passing just north of us this morning, and will likely only impact us with remnant cloud cover. This afternoon, there is a possibility that a stationary boundary just to our south may instigate an isolated shower or two between the lake and I-44. Any chance for rain is minimal this afternoon. Temperatures feel close to 105, so a Weather Alert Day has been issued.

TONIGHT: Skies clear, and winds remain out of the south at 5 to 10 mph. Temperatures cool into the low to middle 70s by sunrise.

EXTENDED: Saturday is another Weather Alert Day as highs near 103 will prompt feels like temperatures near 105 yet again. For more on our Weather Alert Days, click here. Sunday, a cold front will move in from the north, bringing a chance for storms. The rain and cloud cover keeps us likely in the 90s, although a boost in humidity will make things potentially uncomfortable to dangerously hot feeling in the afternoon. Our break arrives on Monday as the front stalls, keeping clouds and rain in the forecast throughout the day, resulting in highs in the 80s. This boundary may stick around to some degree for much of next week, keeping temperatures in the low 90s, and rain chances in the forecast through Wednesday.
