University of Missouri men’s golfer accused of taking pictures of woman inside bathroom
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A golfer for the University of Missouri men's team is suspended following his arrest by police last week.
The Boone County Prosecutor's Office charged 21-year-old YuTa Tsai of Columbia on Monday with misdemeanor counts of tampering with physical evidence and invasion of privacy. Police arrested Tsai on Friday afternoon in the 3100 block of East Stadium Boulevard, according to court documents.
Tsai is accused of using a phone to take pictures of a woman who was using a bathroom stall next to him. The victim confronted Tsai after she saw the phone coming from underneath the stall, according to court documents.
Tsai reportedly told the woman he was sorry and that he deleted the photos from his phone. The woman told investigators Tsai asked that she not call the police.
Officers verified Tsai removed the images from the phone, according to court documents. Investigators said Tsai told officers he secretly wanted to take a picture of a person.
A University of Missouri Athletics spokesperson said Tsai is suspended from the team. Any arrest of an athlete for MU results in an automatic suspension, according to the student-athlete handbook.
A court hearing for Tsai is scheduled for July 6 at 1:30 p.m.
