Columbia couple help open NRA Convention Friday morning

HOUSTON, Texas (KMIZ)

Columbia couple Brenda and Larry Potterfield helped open up the NRA's convention Friday with an officials ribbon cutting.

The meeting featured remarks from eight people including former President Donald Trump.

However, some have canceled after the massacre including Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

This morning, Daniel Defense, which made the gun used in the shooting, also pulled out.

The vice president of marketing said in a statement "We believe this week is not the appropriate time to be promoting our products in Texas at the NRA meeting."

One of three musicians who also canceled added he still supports the NRA and believes in the second amendment, but said he "Didn't think it was a good time to go down to Houston and have a party."

The NRA says that because Trump was at the event, people were not allowed to bring guns into the NRA convention.

The event is under extra scrutiny after mass shootings at a Buffalo supermarket and a Texas elementary school.
