JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Community members in Jefferson City came together for a vigil to remember those who unjustly lost their lives in the recent mass shootings.

Jefferson City Racial Equity Group sponsored the event, along with NAACP and Jefferson City's Faith.

Organizers asked visitors to honor the victims through this difficult time.

The event was originally scheduled to honor victims of the racially-motivated killing of 10 people in a Buffalo, New York supermarket on May 14. But after the most recent mass shooting on Tuesday, the event will also include honoring the deaths of 19 children and 2 adults that happened at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.

Another shooting occurred at a Taiwanese church on May 15 in Southern California, killing one and injuring five others.

Speakers were there to offer solutions on how to move forward from the terrible events.

The vigil was held at the Missouri Veterans Memorial at the Missouri State Capitol.
