One person dead after shooting Sunday morning on Grand Avenue

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ.)

The Columbia Police Department confirmed Sunday, one man is dead after being shot on the 800 block of Grand Avenue this morning.

The victim was identified as 37-year-old Demetrius Ware. Ware was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital by EMS.

Prosecutors issued a warrant for 35-year-old Isaac Bryant for murder in the second degree and armed criminal action for his involvement in the homicide.

The Columbia Police Department arrived on the scene at Grand Avenue around 1 a.m. Sunday morning. Shortly after their arrival, the department confirmed multiple shots had been fired.

Officers were seen on Grand Avenue searching the area with flashlights, placing evidence markers, and taking photos of the scene. CPD had the area of Grand Avenue blocked off with crime scene tape for hours while investigating.

A crime scene investigation van was also on scene.

Police are continuing to investigate the shooting and say more information may become available at another time.
