MoDOT, Cole County close roads due to flooding

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri Department of Transportation has closed parts of several roads in Mid-Missouri due to flooding.

On Thursday morning, the department closed Highway 94 from Highway 19 to Rhineland, Missouri due to water over the road. The Missouri River east of Jefferson City is near flood stage at Hermann and near Chamois, according to the National Weather Service in St. Louis.

The Moreau and Osage rivers were near flood stage in Cole County on Thursday and the Maries River in Osage County was already experiencing minor flooding.

Route A over Tavern Creek in Miller County near St. Elizabeth shut down some time before noon, according to a MoDOT Central District tweet. MoDOT also reported Route BB over Gabriel Creek, near Highway 135, in Morgan County is closed due to flooding. The department asks drivers to avoid traveling through both areas.

Other MoDOT road closures in Mid-Missouri include:

  • Phelps County - Route C between County Road 8260 and County Road 8280
  • Phelps County - Route CC at Beaver Creek
  • Pulaski County - Route O south of Dixon
  • Pulaski County - Route HH east of Crocker Missouri
  • Pulaski County - Route U at Tavern Creek
  • Montgomery County - Route J
  • Montgomery County - Route E

The department recommends drivers check the MoDOT Traveler Information Map website before heading out.

Cole County

Cole County Public Works reported parts of several low-lying roads were closed:

  • the 7600 block of Campbell Road
  • the 8700 block of Payne Road
  • the 11100 block of North Branch Road
  • the 5500 block of Loesch Road
  • the 5900 block of Bainer Road
  • the 3100 block of Zion Road
  • the 6100 block of Buffalo Road
  • the 1400 block of Waterford Road
  • the 2800 block of Meadowsford Road
  • the 7900 block of East Lohman Road
  • the 7400 block of Vaughn Ford Road
  • the 10100 block of Alexander Road
