This week the Missouri Senate debated a bill that would allow people who receive SNAP benefits -- commonly known as food stamps -- to use them at restaurants.

Supporters say the measure helps elderly and disabled people who can't cook for themselves. Restaurant food is less expensive than hiring someone to cook, proponents say.

Conservative opponents say allowing the benefits to be used at restaurants expands a welfare program.
