Columbia city leaders to hear public feedback about community development funds

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia city leaders hope to hear feedback from the public about how to spend more than $1 million meant for housing needs in a Wednesday public hearing.

The Columbia Housing and Community Development Commission is scheduled to hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall. Columbia is expected to receive $1 million in Community Development Block Grant funds for fiscal 2023. The city also plans to get $600,000 in HOME funds.

CDBG funds can be used for affordable housing, economic development and other items. HOME funds are eligible for homebuyer assistance, new construction for homeownership and other related activities.

City leaders plan to use the community feedback received at Wednesday's meeting to prioritize housing and community development needs.
