Jefferson City police take boy into custody following deadly stabbing

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Investigators have taken a boy into custody following a deadly stabbing in Jefferson City last week.

Police said officers responded to the 800 block of Montana Street just before 11:55 a.m. on Friday for reports of a domestic disturbance.

Officers found a 23-year-old man suffering from stab wounds lying in the middle of the road, according to the police department.

Emergency crews took the man to a hospital where he later died.

Police said officers took the boy into custody at the scene on possible charges of armed criminal action and second-degree murder. The boy is being held at the Cole County Detention Center, according to the police department.

More details about the victim or the suspect weren't immediately available.

Neighbors said that the victim was allegedly attacking a girl when the juvenile intervened. One neighbor who has known the family for a while said that the suspect used to help her with her groceries and that the 23-year-old man had a history of mental health issues.

All of the neighbors that ABC 17 spoke with on Monday said that they have never seen police at the house prior to this incident.
