Absentee voters still have time to vote in the upcoming election
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
As the Boone and Cole County Clerks prepare for the upcoming April 5 election, they will continue to accept absentee ballots.
Voters will still get the chance to cast an absentee ballot through Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon in Cole County and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday and Monday in Boone County.
Boone County Clerk Brianna Lennon says residents are using an absentee ballot to vote at the same rate as last year.
“People got more experience with the absentee voting process, and have been able to sit more, or are more familiar with it if it applies to them. So compared to pre-2020 we are slightly higher in absentee voting,” said Lennon.
Cole County Clerk Steve Korsmeyer says the county is expecting a typical April turnout.
“We are average I’d say, generally in an April election we would have about a ten-percent turn out so, so far we are on track hopefully to reach that,” said Korsmeyer.
Boone County is expecting a 10 to 15 percent voter turnout for the election.
Lennon said that voters should make sure that they are registered to vote and that their name and address are correct.
Both counties say they will have sanitizing stations and trained staff on how to safely handle voting to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at the polling stations. Voters are encouraged to wear masks, but they are not required.
Cole County voters should be aware that the name of one of the Blair Oaks locations has been changed to Blair Oaks Middle School from Blair Oaks High School.
Polls will open at 6 a.m. on Tuesday and will close at 7 p.m.
ABC 17 will have live coverage of elections results on Tuesday.
