Columbia fire crews respond to overnight residential fire
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Sunday around 12:30 a.m., the Columbia Fire Department was called to the 4600 block of Royal Lytham Drive for a reported residential structure fire.
Fire crews received reports of a fire in the garage of a single-family residence. The first crew arrived 5 minutes later and encountered heavy fire and smoke conditions from the garage.
The crew began an aggressive interior fire attack and search and rescue operation with a preconnected hose line.
Due to rapidly deteriorating fire conditions, the incident commander changed from an offensive to a defensive approach, utilizing master streams from two aerial devices equipped with water nozzles.
The fire was brought under control in approximately 25 minutes.
Additional details regarding the origin, cause and damage estimate will be released as they become available.
Ten crews from the Columbia Fire Department and one University of Missouri Hospital Center advanced life support EMS asset responded to this incident.
The Columbia Fire Department reminds residents that smoke alarms save lives.
Smoke alarms should be placed on every level of your home and outside of places where people sleep.
Check your smoke alarms monthly by pressing the test button. Change your smoke alarm batteries at least twice per year when adjusting your clocks for Daylight Saving Time. Replace any smoke alarm over ten (10) years old.
