Russian troops enter Ukraine’s second largest city, as fighting continues

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Citizens of Ukraine's second largest city, Kharkiv saw fighting break out in the streets Sunday, as Russian troops continue to advance and put pressure on the country's ports.

Video posted by Ukrainian media showed Russian vehicles moving across Kharkiv and Russian troops roaming the city in small groups.

Officials in Kharkiv are advising residents not to leave their homes.

As Russian troops continue their invasion, the United States along with other European countries are sending military aid to Ukraine and imposing sanctions on Russia.

The U.S. has pledged an additional $350 million in military aid, including anti-tank weapons, body armor and small arms.

At the same time, European nations have teamed up with The United States to impose sanctions targeting Russia's central bank reserves.

Officials said if executed correctly, the measures will severely damage Russia's economy and constrain the country's ability to import and export goods.

The central bank restrictions target over $600 billion in reserves, as the sanctions should increase inflation and decline the value of the ruble.

U.S. officials noted sanctions already impacting the Russian economy, as the Russian stock market saw its worst week ever.
