Flue fire breaks out in Jefferson City

JCFD

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Around 6:30 on Saturday evening, the Jefferson City Fire Department responded to a flue fire in the 700 block of Houchin Street.

JCFD personnel arrived to a two-story, residential structure with smoke coming from the chimney and exterior eaves on the rear of the structure; and smoke pushing out from the front of the structure.

Fire crews initiated operations and found fire had moved into the wall space in proximity to the chimney. The incident was under control in approximately 20 minutes.

The origin of the fire was in the area of the flue box and the cause was consistent with heat and flames escaping the flue area.

The occupants were not displaced by the fire.

A total of 16 JCFD personnel responded to the incident along with one ambulance with two personnel and one Chief officer from Cole County Emergency Medical Services.

The Jefferson City Fire Department would like to remind everyone to ensure flues are cleaned and inspected regularly. The JCFD would also like to remind everyone to ensure working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are present and operational inside residences.
