Columbia plow crews to work all night and Friday
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Columbia Public Works plow crews have been out in full force, salting and plowing roads this morning amid the wintry weather and snow storm.
A 25-person team is working on the streets overnight, and nearly three dozen people will take over in the morning.
Many of those residential streets are still covered in snow on Thursday night. Public works should be getting to those roads overnight into Friday.
A 31-person crew will take over at 7 a.m. and will continue to salt and plow all major city roads and neighborhoods.
Officials recommend people stay off the roads if they don't have to. Freezing temperatures makes it more difficult for the salt to be effective and many roads are still covered with snow and ice.
The winter weather didn't stop everyone from getting things done.
ABC 17 News crews spoke to a Columbia resident trekking through the snow and a landscaper helping to plow the Boone County Fire Protection District office.
John Ogan, with Columbia Public Works is asking people to watch where they park their car for one more night.
"Parking on priority roads is prohibited, these are some of the main arterial roads for the city. Things for public needs, roads like hospitals schools major traveled roads," Ogan said.
By tomorrow afternoon cars will no longer be ticketed or towed on those priority roads.
Public Works is expecting a refreeze of the roads Friday. The city will be out salting all day, but people should remain cautious as there will definitely be some black ice.
