Southern Boone Board of Education accepts president’s resignation

BOONE CO. (KMIZ)

On Monday night, the Southern Boone School Board of Education accepted its president's resignation.

On Friday, Southern Boone School Board President Steve Condron submitted his resignation from the board, stating a "line has been crossed in the governance of this Board provides and a lack of adherence to the Ethics standards required of Board Members in our own policy."

Condron said in his nearly six years on the board, he's seen the school district "do wonderful things and educate many students" but said he couldn't continue to lead a school board where he had "little confidence in the dedication or foresight applied by the current make-up of the board."

Condron was elected to the board of education in 2016.

Condron said certain members of the school board didn't follow their duties as a member, stating members failed to be informed on school district issues, used their board position to benefit their families or themselves, and were influenced by outside individuals or groups.

In response, Tiffany Clevenger of the Southern Boone School Board said, "I want to reassure you that the current members of the board are dedicated to making a positive and constructive change."

She continued and said, "it is time to get back to the reason we are all here... the educational experience of our children."

The school board unanimously decided to put an interim president in place until the April election.

Clevenger was put in place to fill the role of interim school board president until the election. A new vice president was also put into place to fill Clevenger's role.

The board also appointed Karen Pfingsten as the new board secretary.

Last month, the school board announced Southern Boone School District Superintendent Chris Felmlee would be finishing out his contract through the 2022-2023 school year and plans to explore other opportunities afterward.

The school board said it will focus on hiring a new person to fill the superintendent position during the 2022-2023 school year.

Felmlee has served as superintendent for the Southern Boone School District for nine years.
