Mizzou football announces new defensive assistant

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou football coach Eli Drinkwitz officially added Blake Baker as MU's new safeties coach on Thursday.

Baker comes to Columbia after spending last season as the linebackers coach at LSU.

Baker has more than a decade of collegiate coaching experience, including six years as a defensive coordinator. He was the DC at Miami for two seasons (2019-20). He was also the DC at Louisiana Tech (2015-18).

“I’m pleased to welcome Coach Baker and his family to our program,” head coach Eliah Drinkwitz said in a release. “Blake brings immense experience coaching defense. He’s a valuable addition to our program.”

Drinkwitz and Baker have some history together. They were both assistant coaches at Arkansas State in 2013.

“I’m thankful and honored to contribute to the culture Coach Drinkwitz is building here at Missouri,” Baker said in a release. “My family and I are excited to be in Columbia and we look forward to getting to know our staff and student-athletes.”

Baker played linebacker for Tulane from 2000-04.
