Shorthanded Mizzou WBB upsets No. 1 South Carolina
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Mizzou women's basketball team was shorthanded, but the Tigers came together to shock the No. 1 team in the country on Thursday night. MU beat South Carolina 70-69 in overtime. It's the first time Mizzou has ever taken down the No. 1 team in the nation.
Lauren Hansen hit the game-winning layup with 0.1 seconds to go in overtime. She finished with a co-team high 21 points. Hayley Frank also had 21 points. MU went down by as many as five points in overtime, but the Tigers finished the game on a 6-0 run.
MU had just eight available players on its roster due to COVID-19 concerns. Mizzou was without its top scorer and rebounder Aijha Blackwell. In the end, the Tigers were still able to win.
Mizzou is now 12-2 on the season and 1-0 in the SEC. South Carolina falls to 12-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
