Federal jury convicts Jefferson City man in connection with 2018 shooting
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A federal jury convicted a Jefferson City man of illegally having a gun that he used to shoot another person, the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri said.
Dana R. Day Jr., 31, was found guilty Wednesday on one count of being a felon with a gun and ammunition after a jury deliberated for about an hour and 15 minutes following a two-day trial, according to a news release. Another person had bought the gun for him, the prosecutor's office said.
Day was accused of shooting another man twice in the chest and groin during a Sept. 15, 2018, argument after a traffic crash. Day drove away from the scene, the prosecutor's office said, while the victim ran to a nearby apartment and called 911.
Chicago police found the .40-caliber Taurus handgun that Day used in the shooting during a homicide investigation, according to the release. The shell casing matched those used in the Jefferson City shooting.
Day has felony convictions on his record for vehicle theft, domestic assault, assault and resisting arrest.
Day is subject to a sentence of up to 10 years in federal prison without parole. Sentencing is scheduled for May 19.
