The first case of omicron coronavirus variant infection in Missouri was identified Friday in a St. Louis resident.
Public health agencies have labeled the variant a "variant of concern" and are watching to see if this heavily mutated strain will be more easily spread or cause more severe illness. However, it's unclear so far whether it will overtake the dominant delta variant and scientists still have many unanswered questions.
