Southern Boone School District extends Thanksgiving break
BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Southern Boone School District announced Friday that schools will be closed the entire week of Thanksgiving "out of an abundance of concern for the mental and physical wellbeing of staff and students."
A Facebook post from the district says classes scheduled on Monday, Nov. 22 and Tuesday, Nov. 23 will be cancelled, and all Southern Boone School District buildings and offices will be closed Nov. 22-Nov. 26. Students will also not be in school the Friday beforehand on Nov. 19 because the primary and elementary schools have parent-teacher conferences and it is a professional development day for all district staff.
"Our board of education and district administration care deeply about the mental and physical wellbeing of teachers and staff. Our students, faculty, staff, and parents/guardians have all worked tirelessly to persevere in the face of some very difficult challenges," says Christopher Felmlee, Superintendent of Schools. "The school district is hopeful that the extra time will ultimately benefit everyone in some way, even though it may initially present a challenge for some families."
The two days will be subtracted from the six snow days that are built into the school calendar.
Parents/guardians will be able to pick up breakfast and lunch for their child for all five days of the extended Thanksgiving break
