University of Missouri researchers looking for children to participate in COVID-19 vaccine study

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

University of Missouri researchers are looking for children to participate in a COVID-19 vaccine study.

The kids will participate in clinical research to look at the safety and effectiveness of a Moderna COVID vaccine for children.

This study will involve children ages 6 months to 12 years old.

Researchers said today they are now looking to enroll children in the younger age groups.

"A vaccine that prevents COVID-19 disease in children would be a key tool to help in our effort to end this pandemic," said principal investigator and pediatric infectious disease specialist Christelle Ilboudo in a release.

The test will last about 14 months and include phone calls, telemedicine visits and up to seven visits to MU's Clinical Research Center.

Kids will get two shots 28 days apart and will have the chance to receive either the study vaccine or the placebo.
