The Columbia Senior Center celebrated its 25th anniversary after being cancelled in 2020 due to Covid-19

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Senior Center’s 25th anniversary of being at its current location was in October 2020. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the celebrations took place one year later.

There was an open house from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, with a short program at 2:30 p.m. at the location on Business Loop.

"We initially started to help provide activities and personal growth for seniors, but it's not only for seniors. We do many activities for people of all ages," said Lee Weinreich with the Columbia Senior Center.

For example, Weinreich said the center's meal program is for all ages.

Weinreich also said Covid shut the center down for about six months and then they began to gradually open up with mitigation strategies like contact tracing and wearing masks. "As more and more people are vaccinated, we've basically said do what's comfortable for you. If you want to wear a mask, wear a mask and if you don't, don't, especially if you're vaccinated," Weinreich said.

The anniversary will also be recognized on Monday with a special lunch and program.
