TUESDAY UPDATES: Missouri remains in the red zone; state profile report shows new cases down 18%
The newest State Profile Report shows Missouri remains at the high transmission level of COVID-19. The report shows new cases are down by 18 percent compared to last week with 212 cases per 100,000 people.
The report shows Missouri had 12,982 new cases of COVID-19 for the week of Sept. 24.
The report also indicates 271 residents died from the coronavirus, a 46% increase from the previous week.
All counties are in the red zone or high transmission level except four, Scotland, Platte, Daviess and Linn. Scotland County is in blue (low transmission level). The other three counties are in the orange (substantial transmission level) zone.
Over 57% of Missouri residents 18 years and old have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine and more than 47% are considered fully vaccinated.
According to the report, over 95% of coronavirus cases are considered the Delta variant.
According to the report, 35 hospitals are dealing with staffing shortages, which accounts for 29% of hospitals in the state. Seven hospitals are currently dealing with supply shortages or six percent of all hospitals.
Vaccine rates are falling slightly, 22,504 people 18 and older initiated vaccination last week which is 23% lower than the last report. 2957 people 12-17 initiated vaccines last week, which is 22.1% lower than the last report.
Boone County reports 38 new coronavirus cases; 31 residents hospitalized
The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services reported 38 new COVID-19 cases.
There are currently 438 active cases in the county, a decrease of four from Monday. The county now has a reported total number of 24,485 COVID-19 cases.
The county reported 23,894 cases removed from isolation.
Boone County ranks tenth in the state with the most coronavirus cases in total volume in the past week. Cases are down 26.6% on the week. The county has a 6.6% positive test rate, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
The health department's hospital status is green with 72 COVID-19 patients in Boone County hospitals and 31 of them being Boone County residents. Of those, 18 are in intensive care and 12 are on ventilators.
The Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard reports that 102,085 residents have received their first dose in Boone County and 92,298 Boone County residents have completed their vaccine doses. Boone County has the second-largest percentage of county residents in Missouri that have received at least one dose of the vaccine with 56.6%. The largest county in the state is St. Louis County with 58.4%.
Boone County is third in the state with a reported 51.1% of residents that have completed their coronavirus vaccine doses. St. Louis County is the first county in the state with 52.3% of residents have completed the doses for vaccination. The city of Joplin has 55.4% of the population fully vaccinated.
Cole County has the second-highest first vaccination rate in Mid-Missouri with 49.8%. Callaway County is third with 45%.
The Columbia Public Schools reports active coronavirus and quarantine cases to their website daily.
The district reported a 30.1 14-day rate per 10,000 for Sunday.
CPS reports three district facilities (one elementary school and two high schools) currently have staff out because of COVID-19. There is one staff (.3% of staff) at elementary and two staff (.3% of staff) at the high school level that has tested positive for the coronavirus. The district has two elementary staff members currently quarantined because of COVID.
The district reports 29 district facilities to have students currently out due to the coronavirus. There are 18 out of 21 elementary, six out of seven middle schools and three out of four high schools and two districtwide facilities affected.
There are 32 students that have tested positive for COVID-19, an increase of one case from Monday. The district is reporting 17 students in elementary, six students in middle school, eight students in high school and one at a districtwide facility have tested positive for the coronavirus.
There are 176 students, which are required to quarantine due to the coronavirus, a decrease of 20 students from Monday. The district reports 119 elementary students are currently quarantining, 24 students in middle school, 34 students in high school and three at other district facilities.
Cole County reports six new coronavirus related deaths; 161 total
The Cole County Health Department reported 20 new coronavirus cases from over the weekend.
According to the dashboard update, there are 10,898 residential cases and 284 long-term care facility resident cases. That is 11,182 total cases in the county.
Cole County has reported 161 coronavirus deaths. The county reported five new residential deaths and one new death from a resident that lived in a long-term care facility.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reviewed death certificates Monday and added 136 deaths to the state's total. Cole County's six deaths were part of the death certificates updates. Kristi Campbell, spokesperson with the Cole County Health Department, says the deaths occurred between August 18th and September 14th.
Cole County ranks 54th in the state for counties with the most coronavirus cases per capita in the past week. Cases are down 17.9% comparing last week to the prior week. The county has an 8.1% positive test rate, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
The Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard reports about 49.8% of the county have initiated their first dose of the vaccine and 45.5% of the county's population have been fully vaccinated.
The Jefferson City School District reported two new coronavirus cases in students and no new cases in staff.
The district is reporting seven active cases in students.
The district is reporting 10 close contacts for students and one close contact for staff.
More than 1,500 new COVID-19 cases reported in Missouri
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reported on Tuesday more than 1,500 new cases of COVID-19.
According to the state's coronavirus dashboard, PCR testing added 1,115 new cases. That's below the state's daily average of 1,186 PCR cases.
The additional positive tests pushed the statewide total to 673,964 confirmed PCR cases of the coronavirus.
According to the state health department, another 439 cases were found with antigen testing. At least 141,331 people have tested positive for COVID-19 through that testing method.
Missouri's seven-day positivity rate fell Tuesday to 9.1%
The state health department added 141 new virus-related deaths. Officials said a weekly check of death certificates found 136 of the deaths.
At least 11,473 people in Missouri have died from coronavirus-related causes.
Hospitals across the state reported 1,614 COVID-19 hospitalizations. Around 294 of those patients are on ventilators.
According to the state health department, more than 2.9 million Missourians have completed the coronavirus vaccination process.
That's 47.5% of Missouri's population.
