MU Faculty Council holds meeting to discuss COVID-19 Survey results and more
COLUMBIA, Mo (KMIZ)
The University of Missouri Faculty Council held a meeting Thursday to review MU COVID Policies Faculty Survey results. The discussion was led by Rabia Gregory, chair of the Faculty Council Faculty Affairs committee.
A survey was sent out to 2,000 University Employees, and 65% responded. One of the biggest of the numbers from the report was 76% are concerned they may be exposed to COVID-19 when they are on campus.
Another stat was 85% think that faculty students and staff at MU should be vaccinated. Gregory said she didn't know what to expect from the results, but the results made her aware.
"Now that we have the data and the preliminary report today will show clearly show some really striking trends," said Gregory.
When participants were asked about the masking policy, 45% said they felt the current mask policy is well understood by the campus community.
However, 72% said they would support revising the mask policy to require that everyone wear face-covering, meeting current campus standards in any indoor public space.
Christian Basi, spokesman for the University of Missouri, says he believes that the university is in a good spot right now as far as their handle on COVID because of vaccinations. Still, he said the university is always looking to improve.
"We're always taking in the feedback we are getting and looking at it and determining are there better ways that we can move forward," Basi said. "We're not going to base decisions on a single number. We're going to take a look and go okay; what are we looking at with these resources, with these case numbers, with the current situation."
Gregory and Bais both said that the school nor the faculty had the chance to look more in-depth at the results but plan to do so. Gregory said a more detailed report of the results would be coming out soon, but the date is unknown.
