Reports of drinks being drugged at Mizzou
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The University of Missouri announced Friday it has received multiple reports alleging drinks are being drugged around campus.
"The university has received multiple reports from individuals that suspected they may have been the victims of drugs in their drinks," said Christian Basi, a University of Missouri spokesperson.
Basi says the university wanted to get this information out immediately, before the weekend started, to make sure the community was aware and to ask people to come forward if they know something.
Students are saying the allegations of drinks being drugged are common among the campus community.
"Definitely is scary starting to hear things around campus," said Keara Cronin, a student at Mizzou. "I think all girls are kind of on edge right now."
"Pretty much every other weekend, there's some story about a sorority girl getting drugged, and she's like, having trouble right now," said Mia Bevan, a Mizzou student.
The university said some allegations may have involved fraternity social events.
"We are working very closely with Both MUPD and CPD, and our office for civil rights and Title IX are aware of these reports and are actively investigating them," Basi said.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the university's Office for Civil Rights, Title IX, MUPD, or the Columbia Police Department.
The MU Police Department is available to provide free safety rides on campus 24-hours a day. Call 573-882-7201 to ask for an escort.
