Jefferson City Board of Education to discuss district’s back-to-school plan

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Jefferson City Board of Education is set to meet Thursday at 6 p.m. to discuss the district's back-to-school plan, among other topics.

The planned discussion comes as the district's website reported two new active student cases, bringing the total to 14.

So far this school year, the district has seen 30 total student cases and 21 total staff cases.

Jefferson City Schools announced on Aug. 16 that a mask mandate would be in place in all common areas and where social distancing is not possible.

The district said back in August the mandate was based on recommendations from the Cole County Health Department.

Jefferson City's back-to-school plan includes other mitigation efforts such as increased sanitation, social distancing, limited visitor access and virtual education options.

The district is also using a rubric for tracing positive cases within the schools. If the number of positive cases within a school environment exceeds a certain percentage, a building may be moved to a level with additional mitigation protocols for a minimum of 10 days.
