Patriot Day to kick off Friday to honor those who lost their lives 20 years ago
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
As the 20 year anniversary of 9/11 approaches, many people are preparing to honor those that lost their lives on that tragic day.
Here in Mid-Missouri the two-day Patriot Day event starts Friday with events lasting through Saturday.
The motorcade, which consisted of patriot motorcycle riders and first responders escorting the 9/11 Memorial trailer containing 720 pounds of the World Trade Center steel, proceeded to the South Capitol Lawn in Jefferson City to be ready for Patriot Day.
Starting on Friday, Joe Torrillo, the last New York City fire fighter pulled from the towers alive after three days will speak. There will also be a reading of the 2,977 names of the people who lost their lives on 9-11 and a static displays around the South Capitol lawn and drive.
On Saturday, there will be a Stephen Siller 5k starting at 8:30 a.m. on the South Capitol Lawn.
At 10:30 a.m. the Veterans Council will dedicate the Veterans Plaza at the Jefferson City Police Department, at noon there will be a parade through downtown Jefferson City, and the Fire Fighter's Association will be serving food at the St. Peter Selinger Center.
