Columbia Red Cross team responding to Louisiana for Hurricane Ida

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The American Red Cross of Missouri-Arkansas is sending multiple response teams to Louisiana to help residents of the state recovering from Hurricane Ida.

The Columbia Red Cross is sending one team of two drivers with a vehicle filled with food and emergency supplies to communities in Louisiana. Two crews will also depart from St. Louis and one crew will leave from Little Rock in a vehicle with emergency supplies.

According to a Red Cross press release, as of Sunday, 10 responders from the Missouri and Arkansas area were already deployed to respond with more people leaving this week.

The Red Cross says the Missouri and Arkansas region has more than 50 responders assigned to disasters across the nation right now. These responders are helping communities in Louisiana, communities affected by the California wildfires and flooding in Tennessee.

To Volunteer

The American Red Cross of Missouri-Arkansas is currently recruiting members to volunteer to be deployed to disaster areas. The Red Cross says positions are open for sheltering and disaster services along with virtual positions.

*An earlier version of this story stated that crews would be departing on Monday. Crews have been delayed and now are anticipated to leave on Tuesday.
