Enrollment up as University of Missouri begins fall semester
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
With the fall semester starting at the University of Missouri, officials are reporting enrollment is up almost one percent to 31,121 compared to last year.
Undergraduate enrollment at the university is up more than 1% with 23,533 students and transfer student enrollment is up over one percent from last year.
“I’m thrilled to welcome back our returning and new Tigers to campus, and I’m so proud of the resilience demonstrated by our students and their families over the last 18 months,” University of Missouri President Mun Choi said. “The pandemic experience has reminded us all what an extraordinary privilege it is to be part of the Mizzou community and what an important role this university plays in our state. I look forward to an exceptional year.”
The university is reminding visitors, staff and students that masks are required indoors on campus for anyone unvaccinated. Masks are also required, regardless of vaccination status, in all classrooms and in work and meeting spaces where social distancing cannot be maintained.
The university is helping those that weren't vaccinated by hosting vaccination events at the MU Student Center on Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Beginning next week, students can schedule a vaccine appointment by calling the MU Student Health Center.
Students, faculty and staff after uploading a copy of their vaccine card will be entered to win a variety of prizes such as scholarships for students, a tour of the Jesse Hall dome, gift certificates toward purchases at Tiger Tech, tickets to athletics events, and dinners with MU celebrities like football coach Eli Drinkwitz and women’s softball coach Larissa Anderson. The grand prize drawing is scheduled for Oct. 4.
