Columbia block party aims to vaccinate residents and register voters

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia Parks and Recreation are set to host The Indian Hills Kite Day Block Party on Saturday, from noon until 2 p.m.

The event is sponsored by Healthy Blue and will include activities such as balloons and face painting, kite flying, lawn games for kids and adults, live music and free food.

According to a press release, The Columbia/Boone County Health Department will be offering COVID-19 vaccinations to all who are eligible.

The health department will have both Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson vaccines available at the clinic, with no appointment required. Vaccines are free and an ID or health insurance isn't required to receive one.

According to the state dashboard, Boone County is currently the second most vaccinated jurisdiction in the state, with 55.3% of the population getting at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine. Joplin leads the state with 58.2% of the population getting at least one dose of a vaccine.

The Columbia League of Women Voters will also attend according to a release and will assist Columbia residents in registering to vote.
