Two Mizzou wrestlers capture Junior World Championships

Ufa, RUSSIA (KMIZ)

Two Mizzou wrestlers won Junior World Championships for Team USA on Wednesday.

Keegan O'Toole dominated the gold medal match at 74 kilograms. He beat Kazakhstan's Nurdaulet Kuanyshbay 11-0 by technical fall to secure the world title.

"I've been dreaming of this moment for years," O'Toole said in a release. "To have that American flag — it felt like a dream."

At 92 kilograms, Elam took down Iran's Mahdi Hajiloueianmorafah, 4-2, to capture the gold medal.

"I'm not satisfied [with just a junior world championship]," Elam said in a release. "I'm chasing that NCAA title with the Mizzou guys."

O'Toole and Elam are just the second and third MU wrestlers to ever win a junior world title. They join Dom Bradley, who took home the gold in 2009.

Meanwhile, Mizzou's Colton Hawks had an impressive showing in Russia as well. He lost to Georgia's Daviti Koguashvili, 9-6, in the quarterfinals at 86 kilograms.

The United States finished in third place as a team at the Junior World Championships.
