Columbia City Council votes to reject the prospective Cherry Street Hotel parking plan
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Columbia City Council voted unanimously Monday to reject the prospective Cherry Street Hotel parking plan.
The hotel developers wanted 99 spots in the 10th and Cherry Street Parking Garage but council denied the proposal.
Council originally approved the plat for the hotel but the parking was a concern for local residents.
Previously the hotel's developers said if the council rejects the parking there would be no hotel. We reached out to a spokesperson for the hotel about the developments but have not yet heard back.
Again all seven members voted a unanimous no.
Monday was also the first public hearing for the FY 2022 budget.
Dozens of Columbia residents showed up to plead their case for American Rescue Plan money for their cause.
The Columbia finance director Matthew Lue said the proposed revenue is $443 million while the proposed expenditures are $474 million.
The city expects to receive just over $25 million under the American Rescue Plan:
- $10 million for broadband
- $3 million for the new mental health treatment center
- $3 million for shelter for the homeless
- $3 million for storm water projects
- $2 million on the mayor's task force on community violence recommendations
- $1.5 million for workforce development initiatives
