Multiple events to offer free school supplies for students in Boone County

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Multiple events, aimed at providing students in Boone County with free school supplies are set to begin Saturday.

Columbia's Voluntary Action Center is set to host an event at Derby Ridge Elementary, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The event is free to all Boone County students and will provide backpacks, school supplies and even health and dental screenings to those who attend. Students will need to be in attendance to receive free supplies.

Organizers say they expect around 800 students to show up to Derby Ridge for the event.

Multiple businesses including A Galaxy of Stars Childcare and Be Yourself Styles are also set to host an event Saturday, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

The event will be located on 1626 Towne Drive in Columbia and offers free school supplies and hot dogs for students.

On Sunday, Dream Tree Academy is set to host an event at Douglass Park from noon until 6 p.m., offering free haircuts on top of school supplies and other prizes.

This comes amid Missouri's tax free weekend with school supplies, computer products and clothing all being eligible for the tax deduction.
