Woman seriously injured after assault in Columbia Friday night

An assault in Columbia Friday night, left a woman seriously injured.

Around 11:30 p.m. Columbia Police were called to the 100 block of Benton Street for a reported assault.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a woman with serious injuries and she was taken to a local hospital.

The woman is currently in stable condition according to a release.

According to CPD, the suspect in the incident is 30-year-old Travis D. Groce of Columbia. Around 2 a.m. on Saturday morning, CPD located Groce along the 1100 block of Jewell Avenue and took him into custody for first degree domestic assault.

CPD reports this is an on-going investigation.
