Former teacher’s estate gives $1 million gift to Columbia Public School Foundation

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Public Schools Foundation announced the largest gift in its 25-year history.

The foundation is receiving a one million dollar gift from the estate of former CPS teacher Kathryn "Kay" McLeod.

The foundation says the money will allow the foundation to double its efforts in providing grants for teachers and students in the district.

The foundation says it also plans to use the money for scholarships.

"We are so incredibly appreciative of Kay and her estate for their generosity with this enormous donation," said Cindy Mustard, president of the CPSF board of directors.

Kay was honored by the Foundation's Hall fo Leaders with the retired educator award in 2013.
