Mid-Missouri cities celebrating Independence Day with events and firework displays
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Area cities and are hosting multiple events for families and fireworks displays beginning Saturday night and ending on Sunday evening.
COLUMBIA
CoMo 200, the Mayor's Task Force on Bicentennial Celebration Planning, is hosting a weekend of events culminating in its main bicentennial celebration on Sunday, July 4, which was co-organized with the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Department.
Fire in the Sky begins at 9:15 p.m. on July 4. The fireworks will be shot from American Legion Park and choreographed to music on KBXR. The park will be closed for safety reasons. Please watch from an open, alternate location.

JEFFERSON CITY
This year, Salute to America is celebrating Missouri's bicentennial with events including carnival games, live music, a parade and axe throwing beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday night and will be followed by the Salute to America parade an hour later.
Vendors at the festival are expected to be back in full swing with around 70 plus vendors expected to be at the event.
The Jefferson City police have a map below to show where street closures are for the event.
MOBERLY
Moberly Parks and Recreation is hosting the Magic City 4th of July Extravaganza at Howard Hils Athletic Complex on Sunday.
Officials say gates open at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The festivities and attractions include the Aquatic Center, family games, miniature train rides, live entertainment, food vendors, beer garden, and fireworks!
Saturday, July 3rd
- Firecracker Scramble at Heritage Hills Golf Course – 8am (open from 7am to dusk)
Sunday, July 4th
- Family Activities – Discounted Mini Train Rides & Aquatic Center Access (Noon-4pm)
- Musical Entertainment – Fifty/Fifty 5-7pm and Norm Ruebling Band 7:30-9:30pm
- National Anthem 9:35pm
- Fireworks (at dark, approx. 9:40pm)
MEXICO
There will be two public firework displays, which are free to attend in Mexico.
The first will be near Garfield Park on Saturday, July 3rd.
Due to the recent heavy rains, the food trucks and bounce houses that were going to be in Garfield Park on Saturday, July 3rd will be moved to the roadway next to the park.
Tyronn Lue Boulevard will be closed to vehicular traffic in that area.
The City of Mexico will still be allowing parking along one side of some nearby streets. Additionally, the City of Mexico is allowing parking on the northern parking lots of the old AP Green’s plant. These are the concrete areas in front of the remaining buildings.
All other laws are still in place and everyone is reminded not to use the property of another without permission.
The second display will be at the Optimist Ball Fields, near the Missouri Veteran’s Home on Sunday, July 4th. Prior to the firework display, there will be food and games at the ball fields.
No parking is allowed along State Route J (Agricultural Street) during the event. The Mexico Noon Lions are sponsoring this event.
LAKE OF THE OZARKS
There are multiple fireworks shows to take in if you are in the Lake of the Ozarks area.
The events begin tonight and go throughout the weekend.
