STORM UPDATES: Columbia Water and Light says all power restored
Columbia's city utility said Monday afternoon that it had restored power to all customers without electricity after storms rolled through the area with high winds and heavy rain Sunday night.
Water and Light said in a social media update at about 3:30 p.m. that all power was restored. Scores of customers scattered around the city went dark starting Monday night as tree limbs fell on power lines. The utility said customers should call 573-875-2555 if they are still having problems.
Man hospitalized after being hit by limb; utilities continue power restoration
Columbia Water and Light says it has fixed its biggest outage caused by last night's strong storms, while Ameren Missouri reports restoring power to hundreds of addresses in Howard County.
Water and Light said at about 10 a.m. that it had fixed the city's largest outage, which was affecting dozens of addresses in the area of Business Loop 70 and Old 63. Several smaller outages remained at about 11:30 a.m. Monday. One near the West Boulevard exit of Interstate 70 had more than 50 addresses without power, according to the utility's outage map.
An outage that had affected more than 700 Ameren Missouri customers in the New Franklin area was mostly restored by 11:30 a.m., with only three customers without power at that time.
Boone Electric Cooperative reported about 150 members without power close to noon Monday.
A Columbia man was in the hospital Monday after a tree limb fell on him in the 700 block of Cook Avenue, a woman who lives next door to him told ABC 17 News. Rosetta Walton said the man had come to her house to suggest she move her car because a limb might fall on it when the accident happened.
The Business Loop Community Improvement District said in an email newsletter that several of its banners and signs were blown away in the storm, some ending up hundreds of yards from their original location.
More than 2,200 Boone Electric members without power at outage peak
Boone Electric Cooperative said Monday that 2,252 cooperative members were without power at the peak of outages Sunday night.
Strong storms moved through Mid-Missouri starting Sunday evening, bringing heavy winds that knocked down trees and limbs. A Boone Electric spokeswoman said Monday that most of the cooperative's outages were caused by limbs and trees falling on power lines.
The utility's outage map showed 168 members without power at about 9:30 a.m. Monday morning. Columbia Water and Light reported several outages Monday morning, with the biggest affecting 62 customers in the area of Business Loop 70 and Old 63.
Ameren Missouri reported 703 customers without power in the New Franklin area at about 9:30 a.m.
The Mexico Department of Public Safety said several tree limbs were down Sunday night and a large limb fell on a car.
Tree down onto power lines in Columbia
During the overnight storms Sunday night, a tree fell onto several power lines on Highridge Dr. cutting off power for nearly the whole neighborhood.
Crews have been on scene since 11 p.m Sunday night working to restore power.
If you live in the area, officials told ABC 17 you will need to find an alternate route as crews work to move the tree.
Tree fell onto one person Sunday night
During the storms, one person was hurt when a tree fell on them.
Around 10:25 Sunday night Columbia police were dispatched to a report of shots fired in the 700 block of Cook Ave. However, on their way officials learned no shots had been fired but a tree limb had fallen on a person and injured them.
Medics were called to the scene to treat the person's injuries.

Downed tree blocking road in west Columbia
As the sun comes up across mid-Missouri Monday morning, more storm damage is being reported.
Boone County Joint Communications sent an alert shortly before 6 a.m. about a tree over Russell Boulevard near West Broadway.
ABC 17 News crews at the scene saw the large tree snapped at the base, blocking the entirety of Russell Boulevard.
More than 2,000 still without power in Boone County
Crews are still working throughout the City to restore power as quickly as they can. Crews have found multiple trees and branches that have knocked out power lines. Officials said the power has been restored at Westridge.
Between two local electricity providers, more than 2,000 people were without power in Boone County shortly before 6 a.m.
Nearly 1,500 customers of Columbia Water & Light were without power around 5:40 a.m. Monday.
The Water & Light department had posted to Facebook about several different outages late Sunday, saying crews were working to restore power.
Meanwhile, nearly 900 customers of Boone Electric Cooperative were without power shortly before 6:00 a.m. Monday. The electricity provider had also posted to Facebook Sunday night.
"We have another night of battling outages on our hands from the passing storms," Boone Ellectric Cooperative said in the post.

After storms rolled through Mid-Missouri Sunday night, several places in Boone County were damaged.
The balcony at Joe Machen's in Columbia was partially torn off, leaving debris on the ground. A power line was also knocked sideways at the corner of Rangeline Street and the Business Loop and crews were still working to fix the power at 3:30 a.m. Monday morning.
In downtown Columbia, a light pole was knocked down onto the sidewalk outside of Lululemon on Ninth Street, leaving glass and other debris on the sidewalk.
Part of the roof of Complete Automotive in Columbia was blown off due to the storms. ABC 17 Crews saw chunks of the roof on the ground and in the roadways.
