Spring break begins for MU students as COVID-19 cases remain low

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Spring break started Saturday for students at the University of Missouri.

The university will not require students living on campus to be tested when they return, like the school did for winter break.

MU spokesman Christian Basi said low case numbers and timing were some of the factors that played a role in deciding not to require testing.

Basi continued by saying many students may soon be able to look for vaccination appointments as phase 3 opens up April 9.

According to the university's website, there are currently 11 active student cases.

This number, far below the peak of 683 daily active student cases on Sep. 5.

The university did see a slight uptick in cases following the return of students in January.

Case numbers remain low in Boone County as well. The five day average reached its lowest point since June with the county reporting the average at just nine cases on Wednesday.
