  1. This was dispatched as a 911 check – caller says they have been shot and hung up. The house on Hirth Avenue where this happened is owned by a local church. (Is it just me or does it seem like there is more crime in areas where the home owner does not occupy the house?)

Police respond and ask medics to stage (an alert is sent out that “City ambulance status is one” – only one ambulance was available for the entire town, normally there are 5 available)

Police arrive and observe an active verbal argument/fight out front. Original caller called back. The 911 dispatcher said the caller sounded extremely intoxicated and told the police they (the caller, not the 911 operator) were hiding behind the house.

Ambulance crew asks for the fire dept to stage with them. Engine 2 was dispatched (hopefully those guys were not too tired from practicing disc golf earlier that day) to help them.

At this same time, in another part of town, an officer asks the dispatcher to send the wrecker of the week for a truck on its side in a creek (never a dull moment).

Police report the victim has a gunshot wound to the abdomen, conscious and breathing. Cops will take the victim to the medics. The ambulance takes the victim to the Hospital and fire Engine 2 is out of service for personnel. Maybe they were too tired from playing disc golf.

It is interesting that this is being reported as an “assault” instead of a more accurate description as a “shooting”.
