Food drive hopes to serve 1,000 families in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Rock The Community is set to host a drive thru food drive in Columbia Saturday to benefit those struggling to find food.

The event is expected to take place at the Parkade Plaza on 601 Business Loop 70 West in Columbia.

The event is set to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday and will run until 2 p.m.

The event is contactless, with those looking to go only needing to open their trunk upon arrival.

Members with Rock The Community will then place food and supplies in the trunk.

Those looking to attend can visit Rock The Community's website for more information regarding the event, or to donate.

This comes as Missouri has seen it's fourth straight week of increasing unemployment claims.

According to The Missouri Department of Labor, 13,490 people filed an unemployment claim during the week ending Feb. 13.

Claims have been increasing for the past four weeks the data has been reported, with Missouri seeing its highest number of claims since the beginning of January.
