COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Several Mid-Missouri schools announced Friday closures or altered bus routes because of snowy roads by Thursday afternoon.

St. Elizabeth, Linn, Mexico and Vienna were among the public school districts in the area that said schools would be closed Friday. Fulton buses will operate on snow routes only.

Dozens of local schools have been out or learning online this week as multiple rounds of snow and a blanket of bitter cold settled over Mid-Missouri. A system dumped several inches on the area Wednesday but sunshine was plentiful Thursday with temperatures reaching the 20s, helping road crews clear primary routes.

Lesser traveled roads, however, remained covered or partially covered in snow.

Temperatures are expected to rise to near the freezing mark Friday and stay above that mark into next week.
